Angels descended on the Chilliwack Seniors’ Social Centre on Wednesday – Snow Angels.

Jared Mumford, a member of the city’s Snow Angels program, put the call out on Facebook Tuesday night.

“If it snows tonight, the Chilliwack Senior Society will desperately need their stairs, walkways and parking lot cleared of snow,” Mumford wrote.

Snow Angels are volunteers enlisted by the Chilliwack Seniors’ Resources Society to help seniors or the disabled. They clear driveways, walkways and parking lots to help seniors so they’re not stuck at home during a snowfall.

“It’s a very small area but a big help to our seniors who need social interaction particularly during the winter months,” Mumford continued. “In fact, they have a dance tomorrow [Wednesday] night.”

On Wednesday morning, at about 8:30 a.m., DnC Lawn-Care Ltd. (which also does snow removal) answered the call and started plowing the parking lot. The duo from DnC – Deven Bertrand and Connor Murdy – were actually hired by Chilliwack Seniors’ Social Centre on Monday and returned two days later as volunteers.

They were joined Wednesday by Mumford and Bill Turnbull who helped shovel and salt the centre’s walkways and stairs.
