As part of Tree Appreciation Day on Sunday Nov. 6, the Friends of Mount Douglas Park Society hopes to plant 1,000 native trees and shrubs along the banks of Douglas Creek.

Planters are invited to join the work crew at 10 a.m. in the beach parking lot off Mount Douglas Parkway. Bring a trowel or shovel, a pair of gloves and a desire to help beautify the park.

Supervised children are invited, too, and small shrubs will be available for them to plant.

Stream restoration work, completed last month, disturbed a lot of vegetation on the creek’s banks, and the goal is to restore the habitat to its previous natural state.
