Walk signal extension gets QB staff thumbs down

Town staff want to wait until a study is completed before extending crossing times in Qualicum Beach

Town of Qualicum Beach staff are taking a go-slow approach to the issue of increasing the crossing times at the Memorial and Fern Road intersection.

In a report to council this week, staff urged the town to await the outcome of an ongoing comprehensive review of traffic and transportation issues.

The recommendation came in response to a delegation at the January council meeting by Carol Dowe, calling for a longer crossing time than the current 15-second limit, as well as more signs to alert drivers about the possibility of seniors using the crosswalk. Dowe also suggested installing a four-way stop light and the provision of interim flag people at the crossing.
