Warmer weather means different road hazards

May 17-23 is National Road Safety Week and Campbell River RCMP are using it to remind the public that with warmer weather comes a change in the kind of vehicles on the roads and that requires a different awareness from drivers.

More trailers, boats and motorcycles are on the roadway these days and these can bring new hazards.

A vehicle pulling a trailer cannot react as quickly to avoid collisions so drivers must keep that in mind when entering the road way or driving near these vehicles. Motorcyclists are more susceptible to major injury and death in collisions. Vancouver Island and Campbell River are a motorcyclist hot spot so there’s usually an increase in motorcyclists in the area not familiar with local roads.
