The City of Revelstoke’s parks department is considering a number of options to improve Kovach Park in the Southside neighbourhood.
A new site plan presented to the Southside Neighbourhood Group in early December explores options including a washroom, new children’s playground equipment, new shade trees, benches, picnic tables, an information kiosk and a new seniors’ exercise park.
Parks director Laurie Donato presented plans for the seniors exercise park to council in November. It’s expected to cost $50,000. The department has $25,000 secured through a grant so far, but the department will have to come up with the rest.
A request for funding for the washroom has been included in the 2013 budget, but that depends on council approval during the budget process. The costs were not spelled out in a written report to the community group.
A proposed information kiosk at the entrance to the park will provide information on the Illecillewaet Greenbelt walking area and the new bridge across the river.
The plan is a proposal at this point and will require further council approval as it proceeds.
