Extent of injuries, if any, unknown at this time

A pickup truck landed just feet from a home after it rolled off Pleasant Valley Road Wednesday night.

The truck and a car were towed from the scene, just north of Butcher Boys, shortly after 6 p.m. The driver of the truck was the sole occupant and escaped without serious injuries.

Fire crews responded to the multi-vehicle incident just after 5:30 p.m.

The contents of the truck bed spilled out onto the driveway of the home, in the 5000 block of Pleasant Valley Road.

Elaine Harrison was at home when she heard what sounded like a car crash taking place on her doorstep.

“I didn’t see it but I certainly heard it… the noise was unbelievable,” Harrison said. “I thought the house was going to drop.”

Harrison’s husband and neighbour had to pry open the passenger door to get the driver out. Once freed from the wreckage, Harrison said the man was visibly shaken but appeared unhurt, and said he didn’t need an ambulance.

Once out of the vehicle the driver told Harrison he believed he had hit black ice on Pleasant Valley road, and the truck had rolled over twice before settling about eight feet away from her house.

“I’m just so thankful nobody was hurt and the house wasn’t destroyed,” she said.

She also expressed gratitude to the driver, who she described as “a very nice gentleman.”

“He even stayed and helped the tow truck clean the driveway up,” she said.

Harrison said she’s asked the city in the past if a barrier can be installed on the road along her property. “I’m certainly going to press the issue now.”
