Water details refined

Members of GVAC met Wednesday to review the master water plan

Specific details are being hammered out for Greater Vernon’s water utility.

Members of the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee met Wednesday to consider recommendations from a stakeholders group that reviewed the master water plan.

“We’re moving forward and trying to keep it as affordable as possible,” said director Jim Garlick.

A primary task for administration will be developing costs and how much money may have to be put before voters in a borrowing referendum.

The process calls for Duteau Creek and Kalamalka Lake to be maintained as water sources and that two treatment plants remain.

GVAC is expected to proceed with filtration at the Mission Hill treatment plant before Duteau Creek.

Juliette Cunningham, GVAC chairperson, insists there is a tight timeline to get all of the planning done.

“We want to come to a final decision on a plan because we’d like to get it to the province (for approval) as soon as possible,” she said.

“We want to be ready to apply for grants.”
