Water main break stops traffic in downtown Penticton

City officials says it will be hours before damage is repaired at busy intersection

Traffic has been reduced to one lane on Main Street as city crews scramble to repair a broken water main.

The break at the intersection of Main Street and Wade Avenue was discovered around 10 a.m. and reportedly flooded at least one nearby business.

A hole approximately five metres square has been opened up in the intersection to repair the 45-centimetre pipe.

An official on site said it could be “hours” before the street is repaired.
