Water metering and fibre optic cable network usage are amongst the topics of discussion at Grand Forks city council’s next meeting, which takes place tonight in council chambers at city hall.
The meeting agenda says that council will receive a report from Chief Administrative Officer Lynne Burch that includes information on data, and costing for a council decision to move forward on water meter installation.
At a meeting this past February, council adopted the Corporate Strategic Plan 2012-14 and as part of that, city staff was to prepare the report by Sept. 2012.
The city says that it has been discussing implementation of universal water metering for the last few years – over the last decade, it says water metering has been installed in all industrial, commercial, institutional and multi-family properties and the only “sector” without water meters is single and two-family properties.
The city has applied for the General Strategic Priorities funding to cover cost of water meter installation, which would be for 100 per cent, and the funding announcement is expected to be made this December.
The city had applied for the same funding in 2011 but the application was unsuccessful.
Council will only be deciding on whether to receive the CAO’s report at Monday’s meeting.
Council will also discuss the approval of the joint use agreement with School District 51 regarding the fibre optic cable network and is expected to defer final reading regarding Bylaw 1931, the Roxul Road Closure Bylaw, until the regular council meeting after.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m.
