The recent heat wave has put Armstrong on stage two water restrictions.
The hot weather caused an excessive amount of organic debris in the Fortune Creek supply.
“We’ve had to switch to groundwater supply which resulted in the implementation of the stage two restrictions,” said Coun. Sully O’Sullivan.
Under stage two restrictions, residents can only water their property by hand. They can’t use a sprinkler or irrigation system to water lawns, trees, gardens or shrubs.
No washing driveways, sidewalks, parking lots or exterior building surfaces are allowed during these restrictions.
Residents may water trees, shrubs, flowers and vegetables, new sod or newly seeded lawn if the watering is done using a hand-held container or a hose equipped with a shut-off nozzle but only during the prescribed stage one watering hours and days (6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. to midnight, even number house addressess on even number calendar days, odd number house addresses on odd number calendar days).
They can also water newly planted trees, shrubs, flowers and vegetables, new sod or newly seeded lawn if watering is done by hand-held container or a hose equipped with a shut-off nozzle during installation and for the following 24 hours.
A vehicle can be washed with water using a hand-held container or hose equipped with a shut-off nozzle and at commercial car washes. It is also allowable to fill or top up or add to a swimming pool, wading pool, hot tub, garden pond or decorative fountain.
Stage two restrictions are in effect until the water quality of the Fortune Creek source is acceptable to allow bringing the disinfection facility back online.
