The Williams Lake Spinners and Weaver’s Guild has been working on several group projects of late.
One of their projects has been to create decorative banners for the upstairs activity hall in the new Central Cariboo Arts Centre next to City hall.
The banners all have the same scene but are being woven in different colours to represent the four seasons, says guild member Dot Unrau who was working on one of the banners this week while preparing her entries for the Potters, Artists, and Weavers show and happening in the arts centre today, tomorrow and Sunday, Nov. 4-6. Unrau says the banners are being created in loosely woven cotton and linen threads so they can be hung so that they catch the light of the windows, much in the way stained glass work does.
Over on their large 100-inch loom the weavers are working on a large lace tablecloth that will be created out of cotton threads.
Unrau says getting the loom threaded so the weaving can begin is a long, time-consuming processes.During the show and sale this weekend look for work by the weavers in a separate room on the main floor of the arts centre, to the right as you enter the building.
The potters and artists will have their work in the main hall upstairs.
