Advance Staff Sunday night’s meteorite show created noise and a big flash of light, but generated only a few calls to police, Cpl. Darren Kakuno said on Monday. Creston RCMP responded to 88 calls for service from August 9 to September 4, he added.
August 29
• Putting a vehicle into the ditch on Duck Lake Road turned out to be the least of their problems for the occupants. Police arrived on the scene and determined one was under court conditions not to have contact with the other and he now faces charges for breaching a probation order.
• Police are investigating a report of theft from a store in the 1000 block of Canyon Street.
• When police arrived after getting a report of two people yelling threats on Helen Street the issue had died down.
• An unwanted guest reported at a 20th Avenue South residence had left before police arrived. • Police are investigating a complaint about threats.
• A male is being investigated for breaching a no contact order.
August 30
• Police have warned a female that criminal harassment charges could result from her numerous unwanted calls to another person.
• A motorcyclist sustained minor injuries after he misjudged a switchback and went into the ditch on Highway 3 near Canyon- Lister Road.
• An unruly and belligerent patient was removed from the hospital.
• Two motorcyclists who swerved to avoid an animal on Highway 3 in Kitchener sustained minor injuries. Their bikes had to be towed.
• A male was located on the roof of Adam Robertson Elementary School but no damage was noted.
August 31
• No injuries resulted when a vehicle went off 37th Street in the 1900 block and struck a power pole. The vehicle was towed.
• A male and female engaged in a verbal argument agreed to go their separate ways when police arrived.
• A unwanted guest was removed from a Riverview Road residence.
September 1
• When police arrived at a Cedar Street residence to investigate a reported disturbance they learned the parties had departed.
• An unwanted guest at a 20th Avenue address was advised that the property manager had banned him from the location.
• A violation ticket that carries an $1,150 fine was issued to a Balsam Road resident in West Creston for having a backyard fire, contrary to the ban which has been in place for most of the summer.
• When police responded to a motor vehicle incident on Lower Wynndel Road at Wilson Road their investigation determined that the drive was impaired. He was given a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
September 2
• Police patrols did not locate a possibly ATV driving on Russell Creek forest service road contrary to the ban.
September 3
• A shoplifting complaint from a Northwest Boulevard business is under investigation.
• When police located a truck and trailer reported to be swerving on Highway 3 in Kitchener they determined the driver was not impaired.
• No issues arose when police responded to a report of a group of people congregating in a Canyon Street parking lot.
• Police are asking for assistance from the public after a motorcycle and rider fled from the RCMP in Cranbrook. The orange KTM dual purpose bike was spotted on Highway 3 near Lakeview-Arrow Creek Road and again in Wynndel, and each time the driver failed to stop. The driver was wearing an orange helmet, a grey hoodie and black vest. Anyone with information is asked to contact Creston RCMP or call Crimestoppers.
September 4
•Police are investigating a complaint about a group spray-painting rocks near Goat River at Osborne Road.
• A male was arrested for assault causing bodily harm and later released on conditions after police were called to an Erickson Road residence.
• A vehicle went off Kootenay River Road on a corner and the uninjured driver was ticketed for speeding relative to conditions.
• Reports of a possible meteor followed a large flash and bank in the sky north of Creston. “We would like to remind the public that children return to school this week and school speed zones are now in effect,” Kakuno added.
