Council issued a development permit for a two-story office building at 160 and 164 Weld Street, beside the still under construction three story mixed-use building.
The application, from R.W. (Bob) Wall Ltd. on behalf of the numbered company that owns the property, proposed space for Island Oral Facial and Implant Surgery on the ground floor, leasable office space upstairs and parking off the lane in the rear.
“Weld is really coming along nicely,” said mayor Chris Burger, referring to the building nearing completion and the Hustwick Place residence at the far end of the street.
Council could only consider form and character, since the project doesn’t require re-zoning and staff say it meets the city’s Downtown Master Plan development guidelines.
Burger said the building will qualify for the city’s downtown redevelopment tax incentive program, charging only the pre-construction assessed taxes for five years after it is built.
