Well use possible if water rises

Armstrong will consider wells if the Fortune Creek drinking source is impacted by high water levels.

Armstrong wants to be prepared for flooding just in case.

Council has given the public works manager the authority to use wells if the Fortune Creek drinking source is impacted by high water levels.

“We’re just formalizing a process that’s in place,” said Mayor Chris Pieper.

“So far we haven’t had to switch to wells because turbidity levels are within the guidelines.”

If wells had to be used, stage two water restrictions would kick in, meaning that Armstrong residents could only hand water in their yards.

Residents are also being advised that flash rain storms could occur, causing localized flooding in neighbourhoods.

As a result, sandbags are available at the public works yard.

“We are also asking residents to keep an eye on the storm drains in front of their house,” said Pieper.
