The school board for the Coast Mountains school district has announced a contract extension for Nancy Wells, current interim school superintendent for the district.

Wells will be staying in the position until July 2012.

“The board feels the contract extension signals a period of stability in the Coast Mountains school district,” said Barry Pankhurst, school board chairman at last week’s meeting.

He said Wells will not only continue on her duties as superintendent, but will assist the district in the smooth hand over to a permanent superintendent in 2012.

“The board looks forward to continuing the positive working relationship they are enjoying with Ms. Wells,” Pankhurst said.

She was hired temporarily to fill the vacancy created last fall when Rob Greenwood suddenly retired from the job.

The board has begun a wide ranging search for a replacement.

It also needs to hire a replacement for secretary treasurer Linda Brown who suddenly left at around the same time as Greenwood.
