West Fraser has landed the title of one of British Columbia’s and Canada’s top employers.
“We are honoured to be recognized among the
best employers in Canada and British Columbia,” West Fraser Chairman
and CEO Hank Ketcham said.
“To be recognized is special, but it is the people who work hard together every day in this
company that truly makes West Fraser a great place to work.”
Some of the reasons why the company was selected as a top employer for 2013 are:
•Encouraging ownership culture with a
share purchase plan option which is
available to all employees.
•Investing in ongoing employee development through tuition subsidies for job-related courses, in-house apprenticeship opportunities and subsidies for professional accreditation.
•Managing an academic scholarship program for children of employees who are pursing post-secondary education.
•Supporting employees who are new mothers with maternity leave top-up payments and extended health benefits coverage during their leave.
•Helping employees make the transition into a life after work with retirement planning assistance and helping ensure savings along the way with contributions to a defined benefit plan.
Other areas in which employers were graded on were in areas of human resource management, physical workplace,
work atmosphere, health, vacation time and time off, employee communications,
performance management and community involvement.
With each of the eight categories, West Fraser was given a grade, much like a report card.
•Physical workplace B+
•Work atmosphere and communication B+
•Financial benefits and compensation A+
•Health and family-friendly benefits B+
•Vacation and personal time off B+
•Employee engagement B
•Training and skills development B+
•Community involvement B+
“This truly says a lot about the company and how it takes care of its employees,” West Fraser human resources manager Elaine Jensen said.
“We’re really excited.”
