West Kelowna fire crews responded to a 911 call of two bags of sodium hydroxide along the side of Western Road, off Ross Road, Wednesday afternoon.
West Kelowna Fire Chief Jason Brolund said they did have the provincial Hazmat team on standby, but upon arriving on the scene they determined it was only two 25 pound bags, and there was no safety threat.
Brolund noted the bags were commercial as they were clearly marked, which made it easy for firefighters to identify the materials in the bags.
Brolund was unsure how the bags ended up there, although he theorized they may have been dumped there or fallen off a truck due to their commercial nature.
