West Kelowna gets provincial dollars for tourism

West Kelowna will receive over $9,000 from the province's Community Tourism Opportunities program.

West Kelowna will receive over $9,000 from the province’s Community Tourism Opportunities program.

The money will go toward an image bank ($3,000), the Westside wine trail ($2,000), Music in the Park and Westbank outdoor market ($2,000), promotional materials for events ($1,500) and a cultural brochure ($700).

“West Kelowna has some really interesting programs, and while they’re directed at driving tourism, residents also enjoy the Westside Wine Trail, Music in the Park and the outdoor market,” said Westside-Kelowna MLA Ben Stewart.

Lake Country was also a beneficiary of the funding; it received $5,000 for branding implementation.

The Community Tourism Opportunities program is administered by the province’s six regional destination marketing organizations, which receive the funding from the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Innovation.

The program is providing over $1 million, shared among 307 grassroots projects in communities throughout the province.
