The weather is getting colder and City of West Kelowna crews are gearing up for winter.

Sports fields are now closed. They will reopen in April. Parks washrooms are also now closed until mid-spring, with the exception of the heated facilities at Willow Beach, which remain open for users of parks and trails in the popular Gellatly Bay area.

Roads maintenance crews are readying the fleet and reminding everyone that when snow falls streets are cleared on a priority basis:

Priority 1 – Arterial and collector roads, transit routes and roads with steep grades for public safety

Priority 2 – School zones and/or school bus routes; town centres and population centres

Priority 3 – All other local and rural roads

A roads priorities map, is available on West Kelowna’s website at www.cityofwestkelowna.ca/roads. For roads maintenance inquiries please call 778-797-2225 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday excluding holidays. After hours, call AEL, West Kelowna’s road maintenance contractor, at 1-866-353-3136.

Please remember to park off street when snow is falling or in the forecast to ensure crews can clear roads effectively and efficiently. Please also remember that homeowners are responsible to clear snow and ice from sidewalks along their properties. Snow and ice should not be shoveled onto the road. Snowbirds should arrange for snow clearing while they’re away.
