West Kelowna to host federal and provincial politicians next week

West Kelowna's Cove Resort will host both the B.C. cabinet and the B.C. Conservative MPs caucus.

West Kelowna will be the place to be next week for B.C. politicians.

In addition to a meeting of the provincial Liberal government cabinet in Premier Christy Clark’s home riding, B.C’s 21 Conservative MPs are also planning hold a caucus meeting in the municipality next week.

Both groups will meet on separate days at the Cove Resort on the shore of Okanagan Lake. The MPs are set to meet on Sept. 12.

As is tradition, Prime Minister Stephen Harper has been invited to attend the B.C. MPs’ caucus meeting. But a spokesman for Okanagan-Coquihalla MP Dan Albas—in whose riding West Kelowna is located—said it is not known if Harper will be there. He is currently in Russia at the annual G20 meeting.

Clark said while her cabinet ministers are in West Kelowna, they will meet with both the Kelowna and West Kelowna mayors, as well as representatives of several local organizations such as the Westbank and District Chamber of Commerce.

When Clark ran in the Westside-Kelowna byelection to replace former MLA Ben Stewart, she promised to hold cabinet meetings here if elected.
