Lest we forget those we must always remember for the sacrifices they made.
The annual Poppy Campaign for the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #91 in Langford is undergoing a few changes this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The canvassers will still be visible at about 12 locations throughout the West Shore, but there won’t be the familiar sight of volunteers with the donation trays around their neck. Canvassers will wear masks, and donation trays will be placed on stools in keeping with public health protocols to ensure social distancing, explained branch president Norm Scott. The public will be asked to take their poppy and put their donation in themselves. Trays will also be available for donations at numerous businesses.

There is a need for more volunteers to assist with this year’s campaign, Scott noted. Anyone who would like to lend a helping hand should call 250-478-9812. Businesses that would like to arrange for a donation tray should call that number as well.
Last year’s poppy campaign raised close to $100,000, with the funds going toward assisting veterans, their spouses and families purchase mobility equipment, scooters, wheelchairs, and services.
