Wind and rain caused problems on the weekend for some Abbotsford homeowners as several power outages occurred due to tree branches contacting power lines.
According to BC Hydro, Abbotsford was hit with at least five outages during the wet weekend.
The largest incident occurred on Saturday when close to 1,500 homes were left powerless in the area east of Gladwin Road and west of Sumas Way. The area remained dark for about 90 minutes.
Hydro crews were kept busy throughout the weekend as five other smaller outages took place.
While the weather was miserable, the Fraser Valley escaped relatively unscathed as winds were less severe than originally anticipated.
Environment Canada meteorologist David Jones said “the wind didn’t come up as much as forecast” but there was plenty of rainfall.
Friday saw 14 mm of rain fall while Saturday saw a near recordĀ 41.1 mm of rain (the record is 45 mm in 1971). Sunday saw another 26.8 mm of rain for a three day total of more than 81 mm.
