More time is required to conclude the trial of a Campbell River man accused of harassing killer whales.

Jason Smith, a former whale watching guide, is charged with harassing northern resident killer whales under the Species at Risk Act and is also accused of disturbing them.

The alleged incidents took place north of Campbell River on Aug. 16, 2010. Smith has denied all the allegations and is representing himself at trial.

At the time, Smith was working for Eagle Eye Adventures. The company has since been sold and remains in operation under new ownership.

The trial ran for three days last week in Campbell River provincial court, but by Friday had still not finished. The trial co-ordinator is still trying to confirm the new dates.
