Cherryville and Lumby residents will be paying more for recreation and culture services.
The White Valley Parks, Recreation and Culture Advisory Committee’s 2014 budget includes a four per cent increase to the tax requisition.
“There were a number of capital items we had to consider — about $86,000 worth,” said Rick Fairbairn, chairperson.
Among the capital items in the 2014 budget are an aerator for parks and fields, encasing for the arena dehumidifier, underground irrigation for the spray park and flooring for the Cherryville Community Hall.
“We are also shooting to build up the reserve funds,” said Fairbairn.
There is also an increase for labour and utility costs.
“It’s a pretty modest budget,” said Fairbairn.
The committee has also decided to give $1,000 towards the Communities in Bloom program.
“We are matching what the village will do,” said Fairbairn.
“The program is not just about flowers. It’s also about trails, culture and the environment.”
