The Wood Lake wildfire is now estimated to be 1,325 hectares in size, according to the most recent BC Wildfire Service update Thursday evening.

According to the BC Wildfire Service, the fire may not have actually grown but increased visibility today permitted “more accurate mapping.”

The Service reports that the majority of the fire’s growth occurred on August 2 and 3, “but heavy smoke in the area previously limited mapping capabilities.”

The wildfire on the west side of Harrison Lake was initially reported Sunday, August 2 and is reportedly human-caused. On scene are 135 firefighters, nine helicopters and eight pieces of heavy equipment.

At last reporting Wednesday evening, the fire was estimated at less than half that size at 650 hectares.
