RCMP can confirm that an independent outside police department has been called in to investigate a police-involved shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, Sept. 24.

Around 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 24, the Anahim Lake RCMP received a complaint in the area of Nimpo Lake.

While the nature of the initial complaint and specifics around the police response are now subject to an on-going investigation, RCMP can confirm that a man from Williams Lake was shot and  killed.

As this incident is in the initial stages, the North District Major Crime Unit is on scene ensuring that all evidence is being secured.

BC Coroner and victim services have been notified and the site has been secured in preparation for the attendance of the Delta Police Department later today.

Weather conditions are impacting flight and vehicle arrivals for the investigators.

“The Delta Police Department has agreed to take over the investigation, as per the RCMP’s policy requiring an independent police agency investigate officer-involved shootings, resulting in a death or serious injury,” says Sgt. Rob Vermeulen, spokesperson for the RCMP in BC.
