A Williams Lake woman escaped a house fire Friday evening thanks to a smoke alarm.
Williams Lake Fire Chief Des Webster said the fire department responded to the mobile home fire at the Dairy Lane Strata just before 9 p.m.
“A woman was sleeping inside when the smoke alarm went off and woke her up,” Webster said. “The house was already filling up with smoke. She was lucky. The smoke alarm really saved her life.”
The woman and her partner, who wasn’t home at the time of the fire, were standing across the road from their home as the fire department finished putting away the hoses.
The couple did not want their names in the media, but said they were being looked after by emergency services for now.
Webster said the fire damage was contained to the front of the home and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
“We will come back in Tuesday after the long weekend and do an investigation on it,” Webster said.
The fire department responded with three trucks and 22 firefighters.
