A blustery night of winds up to 80 km/h left the Semiahmoo Peninsula littered with downed trees, power lines and other debris Wednesday morning.
The powerful storm also left thousands of people in the dark for hours, with many told it wouldn’t be restored until sometime around the dinner hour that evening. Neighbourhoods affected included a large area west of 180 Street, south of 64 Avenue, east of 152 Street and north of 40 Avenue.
Residents on 28A Street in South Surrey told Peace Arch News that a 45-foot larch tree had been ripped out of the ground and fell on the street overnight. Fallen trees also partially blocked an eastbound lane of King George Boulevard, near 24 Avenue, Wednesday morning.
In South Surrey, affected neighbourhoods included Panorama Heights, Grandview, Crescent Beach and Crescent Park, as well as a large section, where more than 3,400 homes were without power, according to BC Hydro.
In White Rock, 21 residences were affected in the 1300-block of Everall Street, as well as in the 14800-block of Hardie Avenue.
Police in both White Rock and South Surrey say the inclement weather also kept them busy, however, there were no reports of storm-related injuries in either city.
