For most of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, Thursday night’s wind storm just pushed patio chairs around and wore out wind chimes, but there were 18 power outages across the area, affecting hundreds of BC Hydro customers.
They were among 70,000 customers across the Lower Mainland who lost power, and there were still 17,000 without service on Friday morning.
There were 16 outages in Maple Ridge. One of the outages was 587 customers, east of 260th Street, and another was 135 customers, west of 241st Street, but most were smaller outages, many affecting less than five households or businesses.
There were also two outages in Pitt Meadows, 27 customers in the 11800 to 12000 block of Blakely Road, and 47 north of Hammond Road.
Hydro estimated to have the power restored by 4 p.m. on Friday.
Winds were gusting to 90 km/h in some areas.
