Winners of the 2016 Mission community service awards announced

26 citizens, groups to be honoured at April 7 ceremony at Clarke Theatre.

Mission will be honouring a long list of community supporters next month at the annual Community Service Awards Ceremony.

The event is set for Thursday, April 7 at 7 p.m. in the Clarke Theatre (at Heritage Park Centre – 33700 Prentis Ave.). The public is invited to attend and help in celebrating the following distinguished award recipients:

  • Lilian Dudfield – Freeman of the City Award
  • Barbara Fehrmann – Freeman of the City Award
  • Judith Ray – Freeman of the City Award
  • Steve Sharpe – Freeman of the City Award
  • Heather Stewart – Freeman of the City Award
  • Paul Horn – Citizen of the Year Award
  • Roy Archer – Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Ken Selvaraja – Lifetime Achieve-ment Award
  • Doug Pearson – Lifetime Achieve-ment Award
  • Mission Healthcare Auxiliary Society – Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Mission Heritage Association and its Volunteers – Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Mission’s Special Olympics Soccer Team – Against the Odds Achievement Award
  • Gianluca (Luca) Paniccia – Commun-ity Service Award (under age 25)
  • VYPER Youth Group – Community Service Award (under the age of 25)
  • Sarah Baban – Community Service Award (under the age of 25)
  • Canadian Cancer Society, Mission Unit, and Its Volunteers – Community Service Award
  • Neighbourhood School Champions – Community Service Award
  • John Retallick – Community Service Award
  • Denyse Tavener – Community Service Award
  • Deborah Handley – Arts and Culture Service Award
  • Tom Nguyen – Sports Volunteer of the Year Award
  • Rick Grant – Sports Volunteer of the Year Award
  • Eugene Sepke – Sports Volunteer of the Year
  • Mission Youth (MY) House Volunteers – Special Accomplishment Award
  • Michele Chapman-Sheaves – Special Accomplishment Award
  • Heidi Smith – Special Recognition Award

The ceremony will be followed by a coffee and dessert reception.
