Rain may have melted the winter chill away but it has failed to dampen spirits as Vernon Winter Carnival continues.
“It was a little wet but it was good,” said Diana Williamson, Carnival executive director. “The attendance was still amazing.”
Friday evening’s balloon glow was adapted due to the wet weather and unfortunately kept the balloons from flying Saturday. But they were back in the skies Sunday.
“Three were really close to the bean bag drop, nobody got the flag though,” said Williamson, who is already talking to pilots for next year’s Hot Air Balloon Fiesta.
Instead of sitting three or four deep, parade goers were two and three deep Saturday.
“The parade was down a little bit but the streets were still lined.”
And there is still a massive lineup of events continuing through to Sunday.
“There’s lots to do all week long, but get your tickets, we have a lot of events that are selling out.”
All the dinner theatres are sold out, the Get Lucky – Dance with Mace is full Friday, the St. James Family Fling is nearly sold out and jopo house luncheons are almost all sold out.
There are still tickets to Winter Breakout today at noon, which celebrates the JCI Vernon Citizen of the Year and RCMP Volunteer Award at the Schubert Centre.
The Okanagan Science Centre is rocking the Carnival theme of Rock and Roll with daily/nightly events.
Get your groove on Thursday and Friday with free lessons at Cheek to Cheek Dance Studio.
Rock This Market “Inside” Out goes Friday noon to 4 p.m. at Kal Tire Place with fab produce, goods and crafty creations.
Then let the youngsters get rockin’ at the Much Music Video Dance Friday night at the Vernon Recreation Complex.
Vernon Vipers are also rockin’ Carnival with games Friday and Saturday.
Join the O’Keefe Family Treasure Hunt of Hearts with fun for all ages Saturday at noon and then get down at the Blues Festival at the rec centre at 6:30 p.m.
Carnival continues to rock for its final day Sunday with the Starting Block 10 km Road Race in Lavington and Tim Hortons Toonie and a Tin Community Skate at Kal Tire Place among other events.
