The popular Chilliwack Connect event to support the needy with local resources has a new format this year.
Organizers have decided to hold a scaled-down version next month, calling it The Warm Winter Clothing Event set for Saturday, Oct. 4, at Evergreen Hall.
“We’re making a conscious effort not to burn out our volunteers and sponsors who so generously support Chilliwack Connect,” said organizer Stewart McLean.
The idea is that every second year they’ll host a Chilliwack Connect event, and then alternate with a free winter clothing-focused event.
“We figured this was something we could accomplish,” said McLean.
“We’ve put out the call and have started collecting donations of winter clothing.”
It’s geared to assisting the needy of Chilliwack, anyone from the homeless to those at-risk, to the working poor or anyone on assistance. Each person can come to Evergreen Hall to pick out a winter outfit including a coat, boots, scarf and hat.
The Warm Winter Clothing Event is Oct. 4, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Evergreen Hall. Refreshments served.
Anyone wishing to make a donation of clean, gently used or new winter wear can call Ann Davis Transition Society, which is coordinating the donated materials, at 604-792-2760 to make arrangements.
