Cpl. Chris Newel
Kimberley RCMP were able to locate and assist a missing person after his vehicle became stuck in the snow. Police were notified late on Nov 9 of a Kaslo person who had been driving back from Kimberley and had not arrived. The concerned wife told police her husband was planning on returning via Gray Creek Pass.
Police were in the midst of conducting some preliminary checks on the road up to Gray Creek Pass before activating additional resources when they came across the subject. He had gotten stuck in the snow and walked 30 km before getting too tired to continue. He was 10 km up Redding Creek Forest Service Road where he stopped and light a fire. He was cold, tired and very grateful of police assistance.
Police remind drivers that winter conditions prevail. The weather can be unpredictable, especially at higher elevations. Be prepared, know your route and keep your loved ones informed of your route and expected arrival time.
