Honouring 22 Wishart elementary students, Colwood City council is presenting the youngsters with the Pay it Forward award, Dec. 16.

The grades 3 and 4 students are being recognized for their fundraiser helping children affected by the typhoon in the Philippines.

“This just reinforces that the students want to do something for these people,” said Wishart teacher Deanna Brajcich adding the student were all very nervous at school before the council meeting. “Education more than just teaching content. I would like them to experience much more than just what is coming out of the textbook.”

The students collected pledges and held a bake sale and raised $6,500.

The City of Colwood will make a donation to the cause on behalf of the students initiatives.
