A 54-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash in Burnaby on Saturday (Jan. 6).

RCMP say witnesses reported the man was riding westbound on Grange Street around midday when he collided with the driver of an SUV who was travelling in the opposite direction and turning left across the westbound lane onto Chaffey Avenue.

The man was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition, where he died several hours later. The driver of the SUV, a 46-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries and was also transported to hospital.

Photos taken at the scene show the motorcycle was seriously damaged, with one wheel completely separated from the rest of the bike. The SUV was smashed in on the front end of the passenger side and had a shattered windshield.

Burnaby RCMP are asking for anyone who witnessed the crash and hasn’t yet spoken to them, or who has footage of the incident, to reach out.
