Woman arrested after newborn baby abandoned in Mission

Infant is in critical condition in hospital, 21-year-old Mission woman arrested and released

A newborn baby was discovered abandoned in Mission on Friday afternoon.

Mission RCMP Inspector Annette Fellner confirmed that the baby was discovered in the 3300 block of Prentis Ave., which is close to the Heritage Park Childcare Centre.

On Friday afternoon the area, including the childcare centre, was surrounded by police tape.

“A 21-year-old Mission woman was arrested and later released, in relation to the investigation. No charges have been laid at this time,” said Fellner.

The baby remains in critical condition in the hospital.

“This was an isolated incident and as it is an active and ongoing investigation, no further details will be released at this time.”

She said there are no ongoing safety concerns.
