Quick action by Penticton RCMP officers helped a 27-year-old, injured woman escape from her Birch Street home after being trapped in an upstairs room by her Rottweiler dog.

According to Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth police received a call about 10:30 p.m. Feb. 14 from the woman who reported the dog had attacked her. When RCMP and B.C. Ambulance arrived on scene they could hear the Rottweiler barking inside.

Officers distracted the dog giving the woman a chance to move a table against the door. They then put a ladder up to the window of the room and were able to safely get the woman out. Just as officers closed the door the dog gained entry to the room.

The victim suffered injuries to her arm and was taken by ambulance to Penticton Regional Hospital for treatment.

The dog was reportedly left inside the house to calm down and was picked up the next day by animal control services. The dog’s fate is not known at this time.
