A 21-year-old woman from Maple Ridge was arrested Sunday after she crashed a stolen pickup truck.
A police officer with the RCMP Lower Mainland District’s police dog services was patrolling Lougheed Highway around 10 a.m. when he saw a Chevrolet pickup near Laity Street. He tried to stop the truck, but police allege the driver accelerated, drove through a red light and hit two parked cars.
The woman was arrested following the crash.
The officer soon discovered the pickup truck had recently been stolen from Port Coquitlam and was seen driving through a residential property on Mountainview Crescent in Maple Ridge.
Police also allege the young woman was in possession of an illegal drug, believed to be crystal meth.
The woman was held in custody for a court appearance on Monday.
Police are recommending charges of possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, dangerous driving, hit and run and failing to comply with bail conditions.
Drunk driver
Police took a drunk driver off the road on Saturday after receiving a call from a witness.
Ridge Meadows RCMP were called around 5:20 p.m. about a man who may have been impaired driving through the parking lot of the Meadow Town shopping mall.
Police found the vehicle and driver at a house in Pitt Meadows.
The 67-year-old man showed signs of being impaired by alcohol. Samples of breath were analysed at twice the legal limit of .08 per cent.
Police said he will have to appear in court at a later date to face a charge of impaired driving.
