Woman found dead in North Surrey home

Police say the death was suspicious, but is not considered a random act.

Homicide detectives are investigating the “suspicious” death of a woman in North Surrey on the weekend.

On Friday at 11 p.m., Surrey Mounties were called to a home near 103 Avenue and 127 Street.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was called in at 1:30 a.m. when it was determined the death was suspicious.

The woman has been identified as 25-year-old Salamawit Girma of Surrey.

“This is not believed to be a random act,” said IHIT Sgt. Stephanie Ashton.  “We have no reason to believe residents in the area are at risk at this time.”

IHIT is asking anyone who may have information to call the IHIT tipline by calling 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email ihittipline@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
