Woman in custody after axe attack north of Burns Lake

The victim fought off the attack with a shovel in Fort Babine

The Smithers RCMP received a report of a male being assaulted with an axe by a relative in Fort Babine, located approximately 177 km north of Burns Lake, on June 29, 2017.

According to the RCMP, the victim fought off the attack with a shovel, fled the scene and requested assistance.

Police officers and B.C. Ambulance responded and the male victim was transported by ambulance to the Bulkley Valley District Hospital in Smithers. He was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

An intoxicated 59-year-old female was located and arrested for assault with a weapon. The suspect was held in custody for a court appearance.
