Woman loses money to computer scammer

Caller said rural Terrace resident's computer was broken and could be fixed for a fee.

THE TERRACE RCMP responded to approximately 30 calls for service from April 4, 8 a.m. till April 5, 8 a.m.

During the same time period, there were seven people lodged in Terrace Cells. Six of these people were lodged for public intoxication.

Downtown Terrace

Save On Foods employee arrested a shoplifter. The 53-year-old woman is banned from the store.

intoxicated person bothering customers at the gas bar of Safeway. Police arrested a 48-year-old man for public intoxication. He was transported to Mills Memorial Hospital by BC Ambulance a couple of hours after his arrest. Five hours later, police had to attend Mills Memorial Hospital because he was causing a disturbance. He was arrested for public intoxication.

police observed a man passed out on a bench at Greig Ave./Sparks St. The 49-year-old man was arrested for public intoxication.

a man possibly intoxicated sitting in a red Dodge Stratus in the McDonald’s parking lot. Police determined that the man was not intoxicated and transported him to his residence.

a woman stated that her 13-year-old son and nephew were verbally abused by an employee of the Husky Station. Police spoke with the employee who had a different version of the events that had unfolded. No offence committed.

man passed out behind the Shopper’s Drug Mart on Greig Ave. Police arrested a 50-year-old man for public intoxication.

woman reported missing. Police located the 24-year-old woman and ensured her well being.

police observed an intoxicated 37-year-old man on Atwood St. and arrested him for public intoxication.

a man wanting to fight another man at a residence on Greig Ave. Police spoke with the man who had calmed down and was going to another location.

Elsewhere Terrace

police attempted to assist New Hazelton RCMP with the execution of a warrant.

a bench warrant was issued for a 27-year-old man who failed to appear for his two day trial. The man attended to the detachment when he heard police were looking for him. He was arrested and taken to court.

two intoxicated persons, one man and one woman, walking on the tracks towards the bridge.

Mills Memorial Hospital requested police assistance with an AWOL patient. Police located the man in the parking lot of the hospital. He agreed to accompany police back inside. Once inside, he became angry at hospital staff and left again. Police apprehended the man under the Mental Health Act and transported him into the hospital.

break and enter to a home on Lakelse Ave. Police examined the residence and determined that the home was not broken into and entered.

intoxicated person passed out on the doorstep of a house on Scott Ave. Police arrested a 40-year-old man for public intoxication.

loud bangs, possibly fireworks, in George Little Park. Checks were done of area.

police checked a white 1989 Chevrolet truck in the early hours of the morning on Sparks St. The 23-year-old driver provided a breath sample that resulted in a warn. He was served an Immediate Roadside Suspension.

break and enter to the UNBC building on Keith Ave. A front window was broken. It occurred between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. last night.

a white truck passed a city bus on Old Lakelse Lake Dr., causing incoming traffic to swerve out of the way.

a woman’s elderly mother is being threatened by a neighbor on Maple St. Under investigation.

familial dispute. Both spoke with the people involved. All were intoxicated. Advice was given on the matter. A few hours later police reattended and transported a family member to alternate lodgings for the night till sober heads could prevail.

Rural

pocket dial 911 call. Police ensured the phone owner’s well-being at his residence.

a woman was victim of the computer fix scam. A blocked number called her residence and told her that her computer was broken and offered to fix it for a fee. The woman agreed, emailed funds to the caller, and gave remote access to her computer. Advice was given on the matter.
