A woman is in custody after thousands of dollars worth of goods from Jay’s Lace It Up were found in a car she was driving. Oceanside RCMP apprehended her after a car and foot chase that began near Port Alberni.

According to an RCMP press release, police responded to a call of a break-in at ‘Jay’s Lace It Up’ at 5:45 a.m. on April 22. At the scene, officers discovered that someone had broken in and thousands of dollars in property were stolen.

Police gave chase to an eastbound speeding vehicle on Hwy. 4 after it failed to pull over and fled.

The fleeing vehicle rolled over a spike belt set at Hilliers Road by Oceanside RCMP, who had been called in to assist. The vehicle continued to flee despite a front tire being flattened and eventually drove into a ditch at Village Way and Memorial Drive in Qualicum Beach.

The vehicle occupants – a male and female – ran from the car. The female was caught after a brief foot chase. The male passenger evaded capture, despite the efforts of a police dog team.

Police recovered the car, which was reported stolen from Nanaimo last week.

Charges have been laid against Robyn Schultz, 29, and Pierre Guidotto, 39, Crown Counsel Gordon Baines said. Neither is a Port Alberni resident, Baines said.

Guidotto remains at large.

The charges include vehicle theft, break and enter and theft over $5,000, fleeing from police, and dangerous driving.

Schultz faces further charges, Baines said.
