Woman thrown from mobility scooter in downtown Sidney collision

Pickup truck attempting a right turn struck woman in crosswalk

A collision at Beacon Avenue and Resthaven Drive sent one woman to hospital with minor injuries after she was struck by a pickup truck and thrown from her mobility scooter while in the crosswalk.

Just before 10 a.m. Tuesday, witnesses say a woman tried to cross Beacon Avenue on the west side of the intersection, heading to the plaza.

A black pickup truck was turning right from Resthaven onto Beacon when the two collided.

A woman who witnessed the accident said the woman on the Medichair was bleeding, but conscious before she was taken away by the BC Ambulance Service.

The driver of the truck remained on scene and was interviewed by Sidney/North Saanich RCMP.

Traffic was impeded for roughly 20 minutes after the collision as emergency crews assessed the scene before re-opening Beacon Avenue to vehicle traffic.
