Women stabbed in downtown Kelowna

The victim, aged 38 of no fixed address, is not being fully cooperative with ongoing Kelowna RCMP investigation.

A woman was stabbed in downtown Kelowna late Sunday night at the 200-block of Leon Avenue.

Police says the woman was an assault victim who walked into the nearby Gospel Mission and told the staff she had been stabbed in the stomach.

The police investigation thus far has determined from witnesses at the scene that the woman, 38 years of age, may have been involved in a fight and then fled the scene on a bicycle.

She has no fixed address and thus far is not fully cooperating with the police. The suspect has been described to police only as a woman. She reportedly fled the scene on a bicycle.

The woman had to be taken to hospital by ambulance to be treated for what police describe as serious potentially life threatening injuries.

Police are seeking further witnesses and will conduct an examination of video surveillance cameras in the area at the time the assault occurred.
