Mystic Dreams is hosting its fourth annual fashion this weekend, where aside from offering a night out for local fashion enthusiasts, various local groups can also look forward to a funding boost.
The event, taking place March 8 on International Women’s Day, showcases 25 local models who’ll show off a variety of outfits, all of which can be purchased at Mystic Dreams after the show.
“We have evening outfits, then we have the fun and wild outfits just for fashion, to make the fashion show a real fashion show. It is a hoot,” said Flo Amundson, owner of Mystic Dreams and event organizer.
“It’s a big gala event, people are hooting and hollering and just having a grand old time. For the half time show, we have an amazing lady who does belly dancing — she does the full regalia. She’s a professional and she teaches belly dancing, so it’s really something to see.”
Half of the money from ticket sales will go directly to the Clearwater and District Food Bank, while proceeds from the hors d’oeuvres go to the Wells Gray Riders Association, and all money raised from the bar will go to the Royal Canadian Legion.
As for the outfits showcased during the show, Amundson noted many of them are one of a kind, so anyone who purchases some of the clothing can be confident they’re getting something original.
“I like to keep just one, or two at the most, of each outfit because my clients here told me they don’t want six or eight of the same thing — they don’t all want to go to the same barbecue in the same outfit. So I try to vary it,” she said with a laugh.
“That’s why, when you come to the fashion show and you really love something, you can come to the store, the store will be open, and you can buy it as soon as the model takes it off. It’ll be yours.”
Amundson noted that while more than a quarter of the merchandise in Mystic Dreams is clothing, she also carries antiques and collectibles, giftware, home decor, jewelry, kids’ toys, and books.
“I try to keep a little bit of everything in the store for everybody,” she said.
“I’d like to add that I’m really thankful to this community and area for keeping me here because this is going to be my fifth year in business here. And the stock changes all the time.”
Tickets for the show, which takes place at the Clearwater Legion, can be picked up at Mystic Dreams. The doors open at 3 p.m. and the show starts at 4 p.m.
