Construction has started on a logging road in Cherryville.
Residents say that a contractor for B.C. Timber Sales is on Cherry Ridge and developing a road which will ultimately allow for tree harvesting.
“It’s very disappointing. We’re not being heard,” sad Eugene Foisy, outgoing regional district director for Cherryville.
Many Cherryville residents say that part of the ridge is prone to slides and the road and clearcut logging could cause a slide. However, BCTS, a government agency, says all hydrological studies have been done and there is no risk.
Cherryville residents have asked for road construction to be delayed so a further study of the watershed can be done.
