Several investigative bodies are looking into a collision witnessed by several workers that claimed the life of a young man.
Sayward RCMP said they were called to the scene of a fatal motor vehicle incident that occurred on Hwy. 19, near the Mount Cain turnoff, about 5:15 p.m. Monday.
Police said witnesses at the scene told them the victim, a 24-year-old Campbell River man, was hit by a 2005 Ford crew van — being driven 22-year-old Port McNeill man — while it was backing out of a parking area.
The driver and the victim worked for the same company, cops said.
The unnamed victim, driver, and witnesses were traveling from their work site at the time of the collision, said police, who added alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this accident.
RCMP Victim Services is offering support to some of the witnesses.
The B.C. Coroner Service, WorkSafeBC and the RCMP are conducting investigations into the incident.
