A month after the City of Revelstoke announced it received upwards of $5 million from the federal government, work has officially begun on the Fourth Street, Townley Street and Victoria Road roundabout.

On April 10, Elisa Becker, of McElhanny Consulting, provided an update to city council on the ongoing project.
Becker said McElhanny has met with a CP rail, whose rail lines border the project, and a number of the property and business owners whose properties surround the intersection.
She said those meetings have been positive.
“Overall, stakeholders we’ve met with in person have been very positive,” said Becker.
Of the more than $5 million the city has acquired for the project, about $1.5 million will be devoted to replacing aging sewer pipes and below ground infrastructure.
Becker said detours wont be in place until the fall when work begins on updating underground sewer and water pipes, and that the roundabout construction is slated to begin in the spring of 2019.
“These detours won’t be in place until the fall in a minor way for pipes, and then in a major way in the spring,” Becker said.
She said workers have already begun conducting underground utility locates adjacent to the CP rail lines that border the intersection as CP rail has underground power infrastructure located there.
Geotechnical survey work required to move forward with construction has also been conducted.
Revelstoke Mayor Mark McKee plans to meet with Claire Trevena, B.C.’s Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, in Victoria next week to further discuss the project.
The city announced it received upwards of $5 million from the federal government to start work March 9 on the project.
