Workshop on wetlands open to public

Help identify wetlands in the valley as part of the Okanagan Wetlands Strategy.

A workshop and open house on wetlands in the valley is being held in Kelowna Thurs., Nov. 28, at the main branch of the Okanagan Regional Library.

It’s the initial phase of the Okanagan Wetlands Strategy, a cooperative project of the Okanagan Basin Water Board, B.C. Wildlife Federation and the Central Okanagan Regional District, and is part of an effort to gather baseline data on valley wetlands.

Guest speaker at the workshop will be biologist, birder and author Dick Cannings, but also attending will be staff from the Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations Ministry, City of Kelowna and the project consultants, Ecoscape Environmental.

From 1:30 to 4 p.m., there’ll be focus group sessions and speakers, then an open house from 4 to 6 p.m., with interactive mapping tools available for people to help by identifying wetland areas of concern.

If you’re interested in the workshop, you’re asked to respond to: wetlands@ecoscapeltd.com

People are also invited to participate in the survey on wetlands at: www.surveymonkey.com/s/okanagan_wetlands_strategy_phase1
