  • Dec. 30, 2016 6:00 p.m.

Two new officers were sworn in to the Oak Bay Police Department – Const. Sandrine Perry and Const. Benoit Lanthier.

The Oak Bay pool, including both pools, hot tub, sauna, and steam room, were closed all of December and reopen Jan. 6 after a leak was discovered. With the pool drained and dry for the repair work, staff took the opportunity to undergo routine maintenance scheduled for June – negating that expected closure. The regular schedule and classes at the pool resume Jan. 7.

BC Assessment warned Oak Bay residents assessed values could jump 10 to 40 per cent.

• Cause of death was undetermined after Oak Bay Police were called to Yale Street shortly after 1 p.m. on Dec. 13 where the body of a 25-year-old man was discovered inside a garage under construction.

• Oak Bay’s application for provincal deer funding remains under review.  Invermere, Grand Forks, Elkford and Cranbrook were approved, while the ministry works with Oak Bay to refine its proposal.
